There is currently a cosplay competition on-going on the SM City Batangas Facebook Page. It's your regular 'most Facebook likes' contest but what's interesting about this one is the introduction of cosplay in Batangas City. For what I am to understand, this is the first 'mainstream' cosplay event in the city.

Already, we can see some old Alodia cosplays. There is no way around in. You can't not mention Alodia when you talk about cosplay in the Philippines.

Then there are those who seemingly didn't put that much effort.

But hey, it's all good fun.

Here are my favorites. They're either really good cosplays or you can just see that they really put time and effort into their costumes.

As a big Alodia Gosiengfiao fan way before she became super mainstream, I want to share something -

Unless you are going to have an incredibly exceptional costume and are going to give a super amazing performance, do not do Naruto, Bleach or Death Note. Those cosplays have been done done so many times before, it's not even fun seeing them.

Also, expect shit from your peers and practically everyone, especially older people. Not a lot of people get cosplaying and they probably never will. Just be a bigger person and understand the situation.

To the organizers - there should be a separate mecha category for robot-like and similar costumes. And be sure to contact local photographers and photo hobbyists *cough* ehem, me *cough*. I'm sure a lot of them would like to take advantage of a photo op like this.

To photographers and photo hobbyists - this is an amazing photo op to practice portrait photography. Be sure to take advantage of these events.

And to everyone - just have fun! :)
